Please find your child's library book in his/her book bag every other Tuesday. In the Take Home Folder is a copy of the "Book Report" (if you are not sure what it is, please click on the button above). The book report and the book are due on or before the following Thursday (unless there is a holiday). Thank you and happy reading :)
Dear Pierce Families,
Join us in our Pierce Summer Reading Challenge! Last summer we were able to read almost 10,000 books. Let’s see if the Pierce School, grades K-8, can read 10,000 books this summer! We will be
collecting the reading logs on the first day of school next year and using them to calculate how many books each class, each grade, and the whole school have read this summer. Our totals will be graphed in the cafeteria.
All Pierce students in grades 1-8 should read as much as they can this summer, however, they are required to read at least three books: one fiction, one nonfiction, and one classic. The Brookline Public Schools Summer Reading Lists are a wonderful selection of new and old titles appropriate for each grade level. Each grade level list has recommendations for fiction, nonfiction, and classic stories. Your child will receive a paper copy of this list and it will be available online at http://brooklinesummerreading.weebly.com/. In addition, a supplemental list of classics, both picture and chapter books, will be provided on the Pierce School website at https://www.brookline.k12.ma.us/Page/2101.
We are not requiring that any specific title be read in each grade and there is no written response required for any of the books read. Students simply need to complete a reading log and choose one favorite book that will be discussed in September. Completed reading logs should be brought to your child’s homeroom or English Language Arts (ELA) teacher no later than Friday, September 13, 2019.
You can find many of the titles off the 2019 Brookline Summer Reading List at the public libraries and local bookstores. Please encourage your child to read all summer long. Thank you for supporting this effort. Happy Reading!
